| Description: Distinguished from his English cousins by his finer bones, more leg length and more angulated hindquarters. The American Foxhound was not bred to be a family pet, but if he is well socialized as a young pup he will adapt to family life. He has a tendency to want to roam, but will adapt to his environment if properly cared for. Favored as a hunting dog he has a keen nose and a remarkable talent to instinctively bark on the fox's trail. He is exceptionally athletic and is very willing to work. |
Health: *Major Concerns: None *Minor Concerns: thrombocytopathy *Occasionally seen: None *Suggested tests: blood |
| Temperment: The Foxhoud gets along best with human or canine companionship. It is tolerant, amiable, and gentle dog, even though it is not very demonstrative. Most are reserved with strangers. It is first and foremost a hunter, ever ready to hit the trail. It needs daily exercise in gleefully, heedless of comands. This is a dog that likes the outdoors; it is not a city dog. It bays. |
